Meet The Orthodontist & Innovator

Meet Dr. Earl Bergersen, Innovator for Interceptive Orthodontics

Following his dental degrees as an orthodontist, Dr. Earl Bergersen went on to become an assistant professor at Northwestern University. For 25 years, Dr.  Bergersen taught on the subject of orthodontic growth and development,   cephalometric radiography and cephalometric analysis. (Cephalometric analysis   studies the skeletal and dental relationships of the head, used by orthodontists to plan treatment and determine proper development.)

In 1968, Dr. Earl Bergersen developed the Ortho-Tain® Preformed Positioner,   followed by the Occlus-o-Guide® Eruption Guidance Appliance, and the Nite-  Guide® Eruption Guidance Appliance, thus spearheading interceptive orthodonics.   He holds more than 450 patents throughout the world. In fact, most braceless  orthodontics, invisible aligners, and removable braces today utilize the foundation of   research studies and FDA clearances earned by Dr. Bergersen as the pioneer of   braceless orthodontics.

An expert in the field of development and growth, Dr. Bergersen lectures in many stateside universities such as: Tufts University, Loyola University, Northwestern University, Marquette University, University of Illinois, and the University of Nebraska. In addition, Dr. Bergersen is a guest lecturer in the pediatric post-graduate department of the graduate School of Dentistry at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Bergersen has also presented numerous courses on the use of skeletal age assessments of maturity in relation to facial and body growth; and specifically, its influence on orthodontic treatment and retention timing, (known as Interceptive Orthodontics).
